of tomorrow, top officials were hedging their bets today. health and human services secretary kathleen sebelius today blogged that people should shop healthcare.gov during off-peak hours, morning, nights, weekends. not a vote of confidence says luke chung. >> it tells me the system isn't fully baked. this system should be able to accommodate as many people that want to get on as possible. >> what i'm going to do is make sure we get it fixed. >> reporter: chung says the administration's goal of making sure the website can support 50,000 users at one time by the end of saturday is not the best way to measure success. >> 50,000 is not a number that is unheard of for websites to be able to support at one time. so i think the challenge is not just the number of users but whether there are still bugs in the system that will prevent the process from running smoothly. >> reporter: late this afternoon a health care official said the site can support close to 50,000 users now and cited other progress, the error rate once 6% has dropped to less than 1%. the website now operates much more quickly.

and unacceptable. yesterday the secretary of health and human services kathleen sebelius testified before the senate committee and tried to address some of those democratic concerns. >> while we don't have the fully functioning system yet that consumers need and deserve, we do have a plan in place to identify, pryorioritizeprioritize and manage the remaining fixes across the system. >> what we've receive the past week or so with more and more democrats coming out and trying to distance themselves not from the health care law itself which they all by and large still support, but from the way the website was rolled out and the way that the administration has handled the fallout from that. here's why democrats have concern. if you look at cbs exit polling from the virginia governor's race on tuesday, 53% of voters in that state said that they oppose the health care law and ken cuccinelli the republican won 81% of those voters. now, he still lost the race norah, charlie, and gayle, but not by as much as everyone expected. just two points. >> nancy cordes thank you.

they are making that point. interestingly just today, hhs secretary kathleen sebelius post add blog, some shopping tips, if you will, for folks who want to purchase health insurance. the first tip is shop healthcare.gov during off peak hours during mornings, nights, weekends. she goes on to say have your in come and tax information ready when you log on. if you need to talk to someone, use the call center. they provide the number there. usualing people to logon on off peak hours really underscores the point this is still a work in progress. they say tech experts working 24/7 to have this site functioning smoothly by this weekend. i've been speaking to some folks, tech experts who say, look, it's not just about being able to support 50,000 people at one time, it's making sure those people can enroll quickly and without experiencing too many error messages. what would success look like for the administration ? well, by monday i hope officials hope stories will come out of people getting on and able to enroll and aren't met with a number of antidotes about people experiencing more error messages. a l
